The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic concepts of logic and critical thinking so as to sharpen the student’s analytic capabilities. Students will study the foundations of traditional Aristotelian logic in addition to the basics of modern symbolic logic. Also, modules on critical reasoning will be taught, wherein students will grapple with articles from newspapers / magazines and everyday discourse in order to practice the skills learnt in class. This is a core course and presupposes no prior knowledge of the subject
- To enable students to classify various types of arguments and argument forms.
- Help the students to translate the skills learnt from abstract logic to actual application.
- To extend the above skills to develop critical thinking.
