“Probably the majority of discoveries in Biology and Medicine have come upon unexpectedly or at least had an element of chance in them.” – Nassim Nicholas Taleb
This sums up the talk given by Mr. Max Babi to the students of SSLA on ‘Serendipity’quite well. Mr. Babi, a metallurgist and plasma technologist by profession, has written extensively on this unique concept and has conducted numerous workshops on the same at various institutes, something that was evident in his brimming enthusiasm. That, along with his easy going nature drew everyone closer to him and it wasn’t soon before he built a good rapport with the students.
He began by explaining the origin of the word and went on to provide a deeper insight into the concept. His presentation was full of examples from various walks of life. He also made use of a lot of images, quotes and a graphic story. The students were also shown a couple of short films. This was followed by an interactive session where he answered all the queries of the students. The lecture ended with a short feedback quiz reviewing all the key concepts and terms learned that day.
In all, it was a very enriching experience for all the students and they look forward to many such events.
